After about three months or so, the plates start to come together and fuse and the soft spot isn’t as sensitive. The front of the skull is another story-those plates can take a year and a half to calcify and harden, so don’t stop being careful!
A baby’s first teeth are momentous and dreaded by many parents. Don’t spend a lot of energy worrying about how your child’s teething schedule compares to other children. Even if you have other children who started teething at an average age, that does not mean that this baby is not going to follow his own schedule.
You already know that babies cry when they need something but did you know that those cries do not involve tears until two or three weeks after the baby’s birth? Tears contain stress induced hormones. This is one of the reasons that stress makes people cry: the body forces the stress induced hormones out of the body to calm itself down. This hormone does not get created until after a baby has been born. Sometimes real tears take a few weeks to show up because it takes the baby a while to begin producing the stress hormone. Other babies can take a few months to begin producing tears when they cry. Every day new developments are made in childhood development. What is certain today could be an old wives tale tomorrow! Is the confusion really unfounded, given how quickly we learn new things about babies? Keeping up with the science does not have to be difficult. Babies are more complex than most people think. Babies’ needs are very specific. All mothers and fathers need to know how to communicate with their kids. You should do everything you can to learn how your baby will develop. The best parents are those who understand what is going on with their kids.
